It was short and it was sweet, and now it is over. Yes OziCallers, we’ve shut down our free calling for Optus Mobile 1300 numbers. This was not our choice, shutting down these services never is. Instead we received news from upon high that Optus was no longer going to pay us for traffic on these numbers. They gave us until the end of the month, and that friends is today November 30th 2011, the day that free international calling on Optus died (for a second time).

Fear not faithful callers, we have another trick up our sleeve….yes Talk Up is here! Talk Up lets you build up free calling credit by calling 1300 721 478 from a landline. Call again and again to build up credit (you get 5 minutes for each call), and then use that credit to make free international calls from any phone you like. So to keep the free calling coming, all you Optus subscribers need to do is find a landline, call that number, and then use your balance from your Optus mobile.

As with all of our free calling products, make sure that you know what the cost of calling a 1300 number for your landline is. Sometimes it is included in your plan, and sometimes it is a separate charge. Avoid bill shock and enjoy OziCall….hopefully our new Talk Up product is here to stay.

Nov 30, 2011 – Update: We are no longer offering free calling to Optus mobiles through our 1300 numbers. Optus mobile users can instead use our new Talk Up service to make free calls.

<s>Welcome to the new and improved OziCall. We are happy to announce that we’ve added free international calling for Optus Mobile phones using a 1300 number. If your Optus mobile includes calling to 1300 numbers as part of your regular calling, then you can now make free international calls using OziCall again.

To make a call, dial 1300 720 832 from your Optus mobile phone, then follow the instructions.</s>
